- Use this eTool and other information to review whether objects you are working with are likely to contain a biohazard.
- If there is an identified risk from a specific biological agent, before starting work:
- Warn others.
- Check that you have an up-to-date immunisation (as applicable).
- Know what the symptoms of exposure are.
- Have an emergency plan of action if exposure occurs.
- Do not undertake the work if you are susceptible to infection.
- Confine biohazardous materials at source.
- Avoid direct contact with materials that contain a biohazard.
- Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to the hazard and risk.
