When handling firearms:
- Never assume a firearm is unloaded and uncocked, unless you have personally checked it prior to handling, even if the object has been in a museum’s possession for many years.
- Never touch the trigger of a firearm.
- Never point a firearm at another person, or look down the barrel.
If you do not know how to check whether or not a firearm is loaded or cocked, then seek professional advice. Make a record of the completed examination.
