Museums aim to eliminate or reduce mould outbreaks to prevent damage to objects. From a health and safety perspective, a museum must also:
- Assess the risk to employees and others from working with mould.
- Provide PPE such as thin nitrile gloves and, for significant risks, goggles, disposable overalls or FFP3 dust masks.
- Provide hand washing facilities including warm water and soap, or alternative means for hand hygiene, e.g. hand wipes, liquid hand sanitiser.
- Ensure risk assessments and other relevant information about mould is shared with everyone likely to come into contact with it.
